Police Searching For 3 Regarding Hudson Valley Shooting

Authorities said three people entered an apartment and shot a man after a struggle.

ELLENVILLE, NY — Three people are being sought by police regarding a shooting Friday in the village of Ellenville.

The Village of Ellenville Police Department said it responded to a call about a victim of a gunshot wound at Canal Lock apartments located on Canal Street in the village around 10:20 p.m. Friday.

Arriving officers found a man with a gunshot wound that was bleeding uncontrollably. They immediately rendered medical treatment and placed a tourniquet on the wound, getting the bleeding under control.

The man was also treated at the scene by paramedics from the Elleville Rescue Squad and was taken by Medivac to Westchester Medical Center.

An investigation was begun and is currently underway in conjunction with the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.

Police said there were three people armed with firearms who entered the building and went to apartment 122 where they tried to forcibly enter the residence.

The apartment was occupied by the gunshot victim, one other man, two women and two infants.

Authorities said a struggle ensued at the door, and one shot was fired into the apartment striking the victim.

The suspects then fled on foot. They were described as being 5 feet, 9 inches to 6 feet tall, thin build, wearing ski masks and wearing dark-colored clothing.

Ellenville Police Chief Philip S. Mattracion said this was not a random act of violence.

“[W]e do know that this was a targeted attack,” he said, “the suspects in this case knew who they were going after.”

Ellenville police were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit, Ellenville Fire Department, Ellenville Rescue, uniform and detectives from the Ulster County Sheriff Department and uniform and BCI from the New York State Police.
