Roofer Disappears After Taking Down Payment For Job: NYSP

The state police said promised roofing job never was begun, and the homeowner never heard back from the roofer.

FALLSBURG, NY — A Sullivan County roofer was accused Tuesday of bilking a client.

The New York State Police said troopers from the Liberty barracks charged Darick Degraw, 35, of Fallsburg, with third-degree grand larceny, a felony.

Police said the investigation found that on Oct. 23, Degraw agreed to do a roofing job for a local homeowner for $16,782.

He took a $7,000 down payment from the homeowner to purchase materials, but he never bought the materials and did not return calls from the client, according to authorities.

Degraw also did not return the money, police said.

Law enforcement said the homeowner was unable to locate Degraw, but troopers found him at a trailer in Fallsburg.

He was arrested, charged and released on an appearance ticket returnable Jan. 24 to the Town of Liberty Court.
