KINGSTON, NY — A judge has sentenced Nyqwuan Monroe to 53 years to life in state prison for the killing of Dominique Green in 2023.

Judge Thomas Marcelle imposed the sentence on Monroe, 26, of Schenectady, during a full-day proceeding on March 27.

Monroe was accused of going to Green’s home in Kingston on July 27, 2023 with two co-defendants, Shaliza Dhanraj, 28, and Maliek Fredericks, 27.

According to prosecutors, Monroe shot and killed Green in front of his girlfriend.

Investigators recovered the gun, which had been disposed of in the woods behind Barmann Avenue Apartments. Prosecutors said Monroe’s DNA was found on the firearm and on a shell casing lodged inside it.

Dhanraj has been sentenced to up to three years in prison, and Fredericks was sentenced to three-and-a-half years, both on burglary counts.

The victim’s girlfriend provided testimony at trial, testimony which the Ulster County District Attorney’s office said was key to the arrest and successful prosecution.

District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji implored young people to think about the consequences of violent conduct.

“A young life was taken by another young person who must now account for his conduct and now faces a lifetime in prison for his decision,” Nneji said, in a statement issued after the sentencing.
