Sullivan County Warns Of Scam About 'Order Of Arrest'

Authorities said the names of the judge and court clerk on the so-called "order" are fictitious.

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — A scam making the rounds in Sullivan County is asking people via email to pay bail over the phone using a prepaid debit card.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said residents should be aware of the scam that tells people that an “order of arrest” was issued and they can pay the bail over the phone using a Green Dot money card or other prepaid debit cards.

The sheriff’s office said there is no such thing as an “order of arrest” and the names of the judge, and trial court administrator are fake.

Additionally, potential victims of the scam may also be contacted by telephone by someone who identified themselves as “Sergeant Mike Parson,” “Sergeant Thomas” or “Sergeant Elliot Brooks.”

None of those people work for the sheriff’s office or anywhere else in Sullivan County, authorities said.

Residents are asked to contact the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office at 845-794-7100 is they suspect any suspicious activity.
