Sullivan Man Accused Of Driving Drunk In Fatal Car Crash
Police said the initial investigation found the man crossed over into oncoming traffic.
DELAWARE, NY — An arrest was made Wednesday in a fatal car crash in Sullivan County.
The New York State Police said David Slemmer, 62, of Callicoon, was arrested and charged Wednesday with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, a felony, and driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.
Around 2 p.m. Tuesday, troopers were sent to a report of a collision involving two cars on Jeffersonville North Branch Road in the town of Delaware.

The preliminary investigation found that a 2017 Volkswagen Passat, driving by Slemmer, was traveling north on the road when for unknown reasons he crossed over into the southbound lane.
His car struck a 2020 Chevrolet, driven by Erek Cruz, 29, of Thompson.

Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene. Slemmer was taken to a local hospital with spinal injuries.
Slemmer was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court.
He was sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, $75,000 bond or $100,000 partially secured bond.
Slemmer is scheduled to return to the Town of Liberty Court Oct. 1.
