Thunderstorms Possible For Weekend In Hudson Valley: NWS

Stormy weather looms, followed by sunshine, according to forecasters.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — You may want to plan your weekend outdoor fun for Sunday, as weather forecasters are predicting rain and a chance of thunderstorms on Saturday.

Peter Speck, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Albany, said the weather will continue to be sunny and warm through Friday in the Hudson Valley, with highs near 80.

After Friday, rain arrives and will cool temperatures down, according to Speck.

“For Saturday morning, we are seeing the highest chance of rainfall, up to a 100 percent chance,” Speck said. “There is a threat for isolated thunderstorms on Saturday.”

Sunday is looking to be the best day of the weekend for outdoor activities.

“On Sunday, all day looks like a mix of sun and clouds, with temperatures in the mid-60s in the Hudson Valley area,” Speck said.

Here are the forecast details for the Mid-Hudson Valley area via the National Weather Service:

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 49. South wind 3 to 8 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. South wind 5 to 11 mph.

Friday Night: Showers likely after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday: Showers before 2 p.m, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., then showers after 5 p.m. High near 68. South wind around 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m., then a slight chance of showers between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 44. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 62.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 44.

Saturday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11 a.m. High near 70. South wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 46.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 62.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 47.
