Ulster Sheriff's Office Investigating Unattended Death
A woman's body was found in a wooded area off of Route 28 in the town of Olive.
OLIVE, NY — The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an unattended death in the town of Olive.
On Tuesday morning, a passerby reported seeing a person lying in a wooded area off of Route 28 in Olive.
Responders found a woman’s body, the sheriff's office said.

The preliminary investigation by sheriff’s office detectives determined the death of the woman does not appear to be suspicious in nature at this time.
Her identity is being withheld until next of kin can be notified, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office said it is aware a notification may have been sent to parents of the Onteora school district regarding the unattended death. Authorities clarified that the body was not located on school property and there is no connection between the woman and the school district.
Further, the sheriff’s office said there is no safety threat to the school district or the public regarding the investigation.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains open and active. The Town of Olive Police Department, the New York State Police, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police and Olive First Aid assisted.
