Uninvited Bear Causes Activity Changes At Hudson Valley School
School officials asked Department of Environmental Conservation officers to come to the campus and assess the situation.
CENTRAL VALLEY, NY — There was an unexpected visitor to the Monroe-Woodbury Middle School Wednesday and Thursday, causing activities to be either canceled or moved indoors.
The visitor was a bear, school officials said, which was seen on campus Wednesday near the woods and the middle-school’s soccer field off Nininger Road.
In a communication to the school, officials said that all after-school outdoor athletic events and practices at both the middle school and Monroe-Woodbury High School were moved indoors or canceled.

League games will be made up next week, school administrators said.
Another bear sighting was reported Thursday morning.

As a precaution, high school, middle school and Central Valley Elementary School students remained indoors Thursday for physical education and recess.
Additionally, the running track was closed for public use until further notice.
The district contacted Department of Environment Conservation police who were scheduled to visit the campus to assess the situation.
Administration officials said a decision would be made about outdoor athletic events set for Thursday based on the environmental conservation police findings.
