Victim Identified In Fatal Shawangunk Crash: Police
A vehicle struck a utility pole and flipped before finally coming to rest against a tree, according to state police.
SHAWANGUNK, NY — An 86-year-old man died in a one-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on State Route 52, state police said.
Bernard A. Pohl, 86, of Pine Bush, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Pohl had been the driver and sole occupant of a 2019 Honda when it crashed around 12:44 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

A preliminary investigation showed that the Honda was eastbound on Route 52, traveling “at a high rate of speed” when it crossed the double yellow line, according to police.
The vehicle then went off the roadway onto the north shoulder, struck a utility pole, and overturned multiple times, police said. The vehicle finally came to rest after it struck a tree.

The Shawangunk Police Department assisted state police in the crash investigation, which is ongoing.
