Wappingers Falls Landlord Ordered To Clean Up Illegal Dump: DEC

Construction and demolition debris had been dumped right next to the street on a slope leading down to Wappingers Creek.

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY — Environmental Control officers Walraven and Chomicki successfully concluded an investigation into a solid waste dumping case in the village of Wappingers Falls on Feb. 5.

ECO police alleged a local landlord had allowed his property to be used as a dump site for construction and demolition debris left over from a renovation project. The waste should have been properly disposed of at an authorized solid waste management facility, DEC officials said.

The property borders and slopes sharply and precariously toward Wappingers Creek.

The landlord was charged with operating a solid waste management facility without a permit and ordered to clean up the mess, DEC officials said. The charge carries potential fines of $1,500 to $15,000 per day or imprisonment.

The ticket is returnable to the Village of Wappingers Falls Court.
