MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Two men were shot and killed in Midtown early Thursday, reportedly after being ambushed inside a recording studio, according to police and news reports.

The group of people were inside a "makeshift" studio on West 37th Street near Ninth Avenue around midnight Thursday, when several strangers appeared and opened fire, the New York Post reported.

Officers first found a man outside the building lying unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the torso. The man, who remained unidentified by Thursday morning, was also rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police then walked into a walk-up building next door at 354 West 37th St., and entered a recording studio on the building's third floor. There, they found another victim, 34-year-old Kamir King who had a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

King, a Harlem resident, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, but could not be saved, police said. King was likely targeted by the assailants, but the other man may have been an unintended victim, according to the Post.

Nobody has been arrested, but police said at a news conference Thursday that they were conducting an "extended videocanvass" to gather images of the suspects. Authorities are also probing whether this shooting is related to another incident on May 7, 2021, when shots were fired about two blocks away, according to Salvatore Comodo.
