Bomb Squad Investigates Package Near Grand Central, Police Say

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The NYPD bomb squad shut down a Midtown Manhattan street near Grand Central Terminal to investigate a suspicious package, a department spokesman said.

The NYPD Emergency Services Unit responded to East 42nd and Third Avenue at about 10 a.m. to investigate the package, police said. The suspicious item is a delivery box that nobody in the area was taking ownership of, and the bomb squad response was called in out of an abundance of caution, an NYPD spokesman aid.

After a short investigation, the NYPD determined that the package was safe, police said.

East 42nd Street was shut down between Third and Lexington avenues during the investigation, police said.
