Go Topless Day NYC 2019: Parade Route, Street Closures
New Yorkers will bear their chest for gender equality and body positivity in Midtown Manhattan on Sunday, Aug. 25.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — New Yorkers will bare their chests and march in Midtown Manhattan for the annual Go Topless Day on Sunday, Aug. 25.
The annual event falls on the day before Women's Equality Day and serves as a call for gender equality and a celebration of body positivity. This year's route will take marchers from the Columbus Circle area past Rockefeller Center and into Bryant Park for a rally. The march begins at 12 p.m. and is expected to last an hour.
"The absurd laws around female nipples point to the lingering bodily repression still inflicted on women by Abrahamic religions in the 21st century. And they are reflected by obsolete, prudish ordinances in our society even today," Nadine Gary, Raelian Guide and President of GoTopless, said in a statement.

Those who may feel hesitant to join Go Topless Day for fear of punishment have nothing to worry about because going topless in public in New York State is totally legal. Street performers called "desnudas" — who wear nothing but paint on their breasts as they pose for photos in Times Square — were able to resist city efforts to force them to cover up.
