A "security alert" was issued for the Midtown Manhattan diplomatic building, the Israeli Consul General said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The Israel consulate in Midtown Manhattan was briefly locked down Friday morning when a man wandered inside the diplomatic building, NYPD and consulate officials said.

A man walked into the consulate, located on Second Avenue between East 42nd and 43rd streets, around 10:30 a.m. Friday, an NYPD spokeswoman said. The man was placed in custody and taken to Bellevue Hospital, the spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman could not confirm whether there were any charges pending against the man or if he posed a real security threat to the consulate.
