NYC International Auto Show: Events, Directions, Tickets

The week-long auto show is expected to draw at least1 million people to the Midtown convention center.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — New York City isn't exactly known as a car-friendly place. A city study in 2012 determined that less than half of the city's households own a car. But that won't stop more than one million people from attending the week-long New York International Auto Show at the Javits Center.

The New York International Auto Show opens to the public on Friday, March 30 and will remain in the Javits Center until Sunday, April 8, according to event organizers. The show will feature nearly 1,000 cars and trucks on display from the world's most well-known and prestigious auto makers.

"Ushering in the latest automotive trends, the 2018 New York International Auto Show will showcase an incredible collection of cutting-edge design and extraordinary innovation," the event's website says.

The official opening date of the New York International Auto Show is Saturday, March 31, but there are some special "sneak peek" shows being held the night before. The event will run until Sunday, April 8.

All New York International Auto Show events will be held in the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on 11th Avenue between West 34th and 39th streets. The Javits Center will be open from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m.- 7 p.m. on Sunday.

How to get there:

Driving through Midtown Manhattan to get to New York International Auto Show will be a rough experience, and parking near the convention center should be scarce. If you can tolerate sitting in traffic, taxis or ride-hailing services are a good, but pricey, option.

Getting to the Javits Center using public transportation can be a bit tricky, but it's by far the easiest and most cost-effective method.

The closest subway stop to the Javits Center is the 34th Street-Hudson Yard 7 train stop. If you're not staying near a 7 train station you can take a 4, 5 or 6 train to Grand Central, a B, D, F or M train to Bryant Park or an A, C, E, N, Q, R, W, 1, 2 or 3 train to Times Square and switch to the 7 at one of those stations.

Tickets:

General admission to the New York International Auto Show cost $17 for adults and $7 for children younger than 12. If you're in a group of 20 adults or 10 children, there's a $2 discount per ticket. Tickets can be purchased at the auto show's website or in-person at the Javits Center.

Events:

The New York International Auto Show is the oldest and most-attended auto show in the United States. A lot of that success has to do with the great events put on by show organizers and auto makers each year. Events include the unveiling of brand-new car designs and showcases featuring both futuristic concept cars and historic models.
