MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — An erroneous report about a person being hit by a train at Times Square-42nd Street briefly snarled service during the morning commute on Wednesday.

Just after 9 a.m., the MTA tweeted that a person had been struck on the southbound N/Q/R/W line, causing delays.

At least one witness — Justin Miller, an editor at New York Magazine — also reported that a train conductor said someone had jumped onto the tracks.

But police and the FDNY had no information about a person being struck, and about an hour later, the MTA told Patch that the reports had been incorrect, and likely stemmed from a person who was simply standing close to the platform edge.

"There is no indication at this time that a person made contact with a train," an MTA spokesperson told Patch by email. "An initial report led NYPD and Transit supervisors to investigate, causing a brief disruption to service."
