Port Authority Bus Terminal Wing Evacuated, Officials Say

A substance found Wednesday morning in the Port Authority Bus Terminal was deemed non-hazardous.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A section of the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan was evacuated during the Wednesday morning commute, officials said.

The Eighth and Ninth avenue entrances of the bus terminal's south wing were shut down Wednesday morning as police investigated the area, Port Authority officials announced. The terminal's north wing remained open, officials said.

A white substance discovered on the ground of the busy bus terminal caused the evacuations, Port Authority officials announced. The substance was deemed non-hazardous and the bus terminal began to re-open around 10:15 a.m., NYPD spokesman J. Peter Donald said.

During the closure, access between the subway and bus terminal was blocked off, a Port Authority Police spokesman said. Bus traffic in and out of the terminal was unaffected, the spokesman said.

Nobody was injured during the evacuation and nobody was arrested in connection with the white powder, a Port Authority Police spokesman said.
