Teen Robbers Throw Bananas At Woman In Midtown Bodega: NYPD

A woman fought off three teens and ran into a bodega for safety when the robbers pelted her with fruit.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A woman was pelted with bananas after fighting off three teenage robbers in Midtown Manhattan and fleeing into a bodega for safety, police said.

The 40-year-old was walking on Madison Avenue near East 54 Street on June 16 when she was approached by three girls in their late teens, police said. The group began talking to the woman and then one of them hit her in the head with an umbrella and tried to snatch her cellphone, police said.

The woman was able to fight off the attackers and ran into a nearby bodega for help, but the teens followed her and started throwing the store's bananas at her, according to video released by police this week. A bodega worker shielded the woman from her attackers, according to the police video.
