Times Square Restaurant Sickened British Teens, Report Says

Nearly 50 British teenagers ate at a Times Square seafood restaurant the night before they fell ill.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A Times Square restaurant is being blamed for sending nearly 50 British teenagers to the hospital after their stay in New York City during a school trip, according to reports.

The teenagers ate at a "seafood restaurant" in the tourist mecca the night before falling ill with symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, the New York Post first reported. The exact restaurant where the teenagers dined is currently unknown.

The British tourists were hospitalized upon arriving at the Harrington Hotel in Washington D.C., the Post reported. Several of the tourists had already felt ill in New York and were sick by the time they got to the nation's capitol. The entire group of 51 travelers, 48 of them teenagers, were sent to D.C. hospitals, according to reports.

The group appears to blame the Times Square eatery for its troubles.

"They all think it was [the food]," George Finn, the manager of the HI New York City Hostel told the Post. The tourist group had stayed at the Amsterdam Avenue hostel during their time in New York, the Post reported. Finn told the Post that a group chaperone "mentioned that they were all eating there together and shortly thereafter got sick."

About a dozen tourist reported symptoms, but the entire group was hospitalized due to precautions, D.C. officials told the Post. The city's Department of Health suspects the tourists contracted norovirus, a contagious virus with symptoms including vomiting and diarrhea, the Post reported.
