- Rescuers are searching around the Shinnecock Canal for a man who went missing while attempting to swim across. It happened in Southampton around 2:10 a.m. on Thursday, July 14. (Daily Voice)
- Two boys were rescued from the Great Peconic Bay on Sunday afternoon after a police officer saw a boater pulling an empty tube. The boys were found unharmed after half an hour and taken onto another vessel. (Patch)
- A 16-year-old girl was shot during a fight in Central Islip on Wednesday morning. Around 11:45 a.m., two groups of teenagers were involved in a physical altercation on Anne Lane, according to police. She was treated for her injuries. (Patch)

- A second shark bite was reported on Wednesday in Fire Island, hours after a surfer was bitten earlier in the morning. At Seaview Beach, at 6:05 p.m., a 49-year-old Arizona man was standing in waist-deep water and was bit on the left wrist and buttocks, according to police. (Patch)
- A six-bedroom contemporary home on one acre in Port Jefferson overlooking the Long Island Sound is on the market for $3 million. It has 10,000 square feet including an indoor pool. (Subscription: Newsday)
- Nextdoor Neighbor, Miller Place: "Three-month-old kittens looking for a forever home, spayed/neutered, wormed, vaccinations, tested negative. Can meet at foster home. Must make out rescue group application and pay an adoption fee to rescue to cover medical cost." (Nextdoor)
