  1. New York's number of new COVID-19 cases continues to increase, with Thursday's positivity rate up more than 50 percent in 30 days. According to Gov. Kathy Hochul, as of May 5, the total number of new positive cases stood at 10,251, the first time cases exceeded 10,000 since late January. (Patch)
  2. Police arrested an East Setauket man this week after weapons and drugs were found inside his home: 26-year-old Robert Ludwig. Police discovered three “ghost” handguns, 41 high-capacity magazines, a firearm silencer, drugs including Fentanyl, and over $50,000 in cash. (News 12)
  3. Suffolk police are seeking the public's help to identify the driver of a sport-utility vehicle they say struck a pedestrian in Mastic Beach and then drove away last month. The pedestrian was walking eastbound on Neighborhood Road, near Flower Road, at about 8 p.m. on April 21, when he was struck by a dark-colored SUV. (Patch)

  • Urban Air Lake Grove and Wisdom Tree Preschool of Miller Place are partnering to launch a new experiential curriculum for toddlers ages 2 to 5. The program will provide classroom style activities and physical activity on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning May 9. (News 12)
  • The Lifetime television network will air a movie about Gabby Petito starring actress Thora Birch as Petito's mother, Nichole Schmidt. The film is part of Lifetime's Stop Violence Against Women public affairs initiative and has a working title of "The Gabby Petito Story." (Patch)
