Her second grade class participated in a very special activity – a Zoom conference with Dorothy Carley, Ferraro’s grandmother, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Students listened to her life story and asked questions about how the world has changed over the last 100 years.

Carley shared memories of playing Laurel and Hardy as a child, and calling every object that flew overhead a Lindbergh. As students talked about cellphones, she explained how her first job was a telephone operator before automatic ringing existed and how they had to switch plugs. Her favorite grade at school was eighth grade because she had a male teacher who was very funny, and at the students’ request, she did share she enjoys having a senior discount.

“In a moment they won’t forget, the students had the unique opportunity to hear history from someone who’s lived it and connect with another generation,” Principal Jason Westerlund said.
