Man Broke Into 13 Unlocked Cars: Police

He was arrested on the grounds of Shoreham-Wading River High School Friday morning, police say.

SHOREHAM, NY – A 38-year-old man was arrested Friday for stealing items from 13 unlocked vehicles in Shoreham, East Shoreham and Wading River during the past month, Suffolk police said.

During the course of the investigation into larcenies from vehicles since Aug. 30, Seventh Precinct Crime Section officers identified a suspect. Seventh Precinct Police Officer Karen Grenia observed the suspect, Patrick Fontaine, in the vicinity of Route 25A at about 7:50 a.m. Friday, police said.

Fontaine was apprehended a short time later on the grounds of Shoreham-Wading River High School, police said.

Seventh Precinct Crime Section officers, who were assisted by Canine Section officers, charged Fontaine with 13 counts of petty larceny for stealing items from vehicles at the following locations:

· Circle Drive in Shoreham on August 30.

· Circle Drive in Shoreham on August 31.

· Jomar Road in Shoreham on September 13.

· Reynolds Road in Shoreham on September 18.

· Frederick Drive in Shoreham on September 18.

· John Street in Shoreham between September 18 and September 19.

· Royal Way in Shoreham on September 19.

· John Street in Shoreham on September 19.

· Knight Street in Shoreham on September 19.

· Zophar Mills Road in East Shoreham between September 20 and September 21.

· Randall Road in Wading River between September 20 and September 21.

· Zophar Mills Road in East Shoreham on September 21.

· Thomas Drive in Wading River between September 20 and September 21.

Items stolen included money, electronics, identification and glasses, police said.

Fontaine, of Yaphank, was also charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and a parole warrant. Fontaine was released from an upstate prison last January after serving time for attempted burglary and attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance, according to state records.

He will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
