  1. Suffolk County announced that the first case of orthopoxvirus, or monkeypox, in the county on Friday. The person is isolating in their home, and the name of the town was not released. (Patch)
  2. Suffolk Police Marine Bureau police officers rescued three paddle boarders in the Long Island Sound on Friday afternoon. A call of a paddle boarder in distress in the Long Island Sound came in, a mile off Crab Meadow Beach in Fort Salonga at 2 p.m. (Smithtown Matters)
  3. Four men were arrested for driving while intoxicated between Friday night and Saturday morning in Port Jefferson. The arrests were part of a holiday DWI/DUI crackdown. (Patch)

  • League of Yes, a nonprofit, won $25,000 in grant funding to build an accessible playground in Farmingville from the insurance company State Farm on Thursday. The money was awarded based on people casting more than 2 million votes to support their favorite cause. (Patch)
  • Ongoing Long Island Expressway repair work is frustrating drivers. The New York State Department Of Transportation put out a travel advisory warning of construction and a detour between exits 56 and 61 which will last around four weeks. (FOX 5 New York)
