NY Among Most Stressed Out States in Nation: Report

"New Yorkers spend more time on their work commutes than any other state."

In what will come as little surprise to the many New Yorkers, the Empire State is among the most stressed out states in the country, according to new report released by Zippia.

New York comes in at No. 5 on the list of the most stressed out states. Zippia says it used data from U.S. Census’ American Community Survey for 2012-2016 to determine its rankings. The site used the following criteria to determine a stressed out score for each state:

  • Long commute times
  • Unemployment
  • Hours worked
  • Population density
  • Home price to income ratio
  • Percent uninsured population

"New Yorkers spend more time on their work commutes than any other state...Add that to an extremely high cost of living and it’s no wonder why New Yorkers are so stressed," Zippia says.
