MILLER PLACE-ROCKY POINT — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

This submission comes from David Oliva who nominated his son, Nick, of Miller Place-Rocky Point. Nick, a football and lacrosse player, has been described as the ultimate teammate, who also has been inducted into the National Honor Society.

Football and Lacrosse

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?:

Nick is the ultimate teammate. He is captain of this year's football team and was named the number-one kicker in New York State last year during the regular season. He is always willing to help underclassmen who also kick and was part of a team that helped raise over $25,000 for a child in the community who was diagnosed with cancer.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?:

Not only is Nick a great athlete and mentor for younger players, but he is a member of the National Honor Society.
