Tides Beach In Rocky Point Closed To Bathing Due To Bacteria

The Rocky Point beach has been closed to swimming since Tuesday due to the risk of illness from elevated bacteria levels.

ROCKY POINT, NY — Tides Beach in Rocky Point is closed to bathing due to elevated bacteria levels. Suffolk County Department of Health issued an advisory on Tuesday, and as of Thursday the beach continues to be closed to bathers.

The department will reopen the beach, at 61 Hagerman Landing Rd., when bacteria levels return to safe levels.

Bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
