- A shark bit a teenage lifeguard at Ocean Beach on Fire Island. He was taking part in a training exercise 150 to 200 yards offshore at 11 a.m. and bitten on his foot. (FOX 5 New York)
- Two women from Central Islip and Farmingville won $1 million each in lottery this month. Lynn Powell of Central Islip took the $1 million top prize in the New York Lottery’s Emerald 10’s scratch-off game. And Farmingville’s Diane Barbera will buy a house with her Mega Millions lump sum payment of $651,000. (Greater Long Island)
- A new ice cream shop in Manorville opened with unique desserts. Rainbow Scoops serves sweet burritos with cotton candy stuffed with ice cream and toppings along with other treats at 460 County Road 111. (Subscription: Newsday)
