2 Mineola Students Selected For Prestigious Mathematics Program
Two ninth-graders at Mineola High School have been accepted to a prestigious mathematics program at SUNY Old Westbury.
MINEOLA, NY — Two Mineola High School students have been accepted into the Institute of Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and Talented Students at SUNY Old Westbury.
Ninth-graders Catherine Dinh and Julia Manevitz are among the 85 students who were admitted into the program out of the 450 who were recommended. This puts them in the top one-tenth of one percent in math of all ninth-grade students on Long Island, according to a press release.
Over the course of 20 Saturday mornings, participants will spend 50 hours in classes that cover different mathematic topics, including geometry, discrete math and number theory, and algebra.

Many graduates of the Institute of Creative Problem Solving have gone on to win prestigious awards, including national and international math science and engineering contests, the press release stated.
