Bittersweet Jewish Holiday Celebration On LI Marking Oct. 7 Attack

The Beresheet Festival takes place on Sunday at the Sid Jacobson JCC.

EAST HILLS, NY — A special event will bring more than 20 Jewish congregations to commemorate the tragic events of Oct. 7, 2023.

The inaugural Beresheet Festival is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Sid Jacobson JCC in East Hills.

The festival also marks the celebration of the Jewish holiday Simchat Torah. Along with representation from 27 synagogues, the JCC will lead prayers, songs and dancing. Additionally, seven circles will be made around the Torah, with each symbolizing remembrance, support, gratitude, resilience, hope, peace and unity.

The festival takes place from 4-5:30 p.m.
