Nassau Bans Sparklers
Calling them "incredibly harmful," County Executive Laura Curran signed a bill banning the Fourth of July favorites. Do you support the ban?

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran signed a bill Tuesday morning prohibiting the sale and use of sparkling devices in the county.
"They look harmless, but they are incredibly harmful," Curran said. "They can cause fires and serious, serious injury."
Sparkling devices make up a large percentage of firework injuries each year and are responsible for the majority of injuries suffered by children, officials said.

A new state law allows sparklers to be sold from July 1 to July 5 and from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 unless a county or city enacts a local law banning them as Nassau did Tuesday.
