Nassau Detectives Association Endorses Anne Donnelly For D.A.

MINEOLA, NY — The Nassau County Detectives' Association endorsed veteran prosecutor Anne Donnelly for district attorney on Thursday, citing her "tough on crime" policies and work with law enforcement.

Donnelly, who was a prosecutor in the Nassau County District Attorney's Office for more than 30 years, is the GOP candidate vying for the top job. She is running against Democratic state Sen. Todd Kaminsky in the fall.

On Thursday, Detective Association President John Wighaus called Donnelly the "only choice" and "the very best among prosecutors."

"Anne Donnelly is a career prosecutor who has worked tirelessly to put dangerous criminals in jail and protect the residents of Nassau County," said Wighaus. "Anne has worked extensively with Nassau Detectives, and we know that she is the most qualified person to serve as District Attorney."

Donnelly, who worked under both Republican and Democrat district attorneys, most recently served as the deputy chief of the organized crime and rackets bureau in the D.A.'s office. She was charged with prosecuting people involved in large-scale illegal activities, like money laundering, and oversaw the prosecution of all computer crimes for the D.A.'s office, according to officials.

At a news conference Thursday, Wighaus brought up Donnell's 12-year stint prosecuting felons, including two murder-for-hire cases — which resulted in convictions.

"Anne Donnelly is the real deal," Wighaus said. "She has taken on the tough cases, working closely with law enforcement officials to gain impressive victories for Nassau residents."

Donnelly thanked the Association for endorsing her, adding that she is "totally dedicated to keeping the men and women of law enforcement safe."

She will face off against Kaminsky — who was recently endorsed by the Long Beach Benevolent Association — in November's special election. The slot opened for Nassau district attorney when Madeline Singas was confirmed for the state Court of Appeals in June.
