Nassau Legislator to Resign, Take North Hempstead Position

Recently reelected Nassau County Legislator Robert Troiano Jr. will resign Jan. 2 to accept a position as Director of Operations in the Town of North Hempstead, it was announced Monday by North Hempstead Supervisor-elect Judi Bosworth.

In his new role, Troiano will oversee performance of North Hempstead's general operating departments, have overall responsibility for process improvement efforts and act as liaison to the Community Development Agency and Housing Authority, according to Supervisor-elect Judi Bosworth.

“The Town of North Hempstead is fortunate to have an individual of Robert Troiano’s stature and accomplishments joining this administration," said Bosworth in a statement Monday. "His management experience and in-depth knowledge of Town government will be tremendous assets, as he continues his distinguished record of public service.”

Troiano, (D-Westbury) has represented the 2nd District in the Nassau County Legislature since 2010. He defeated Republican Pepitz Blanchard of New Cassel Nov. 5 in Nassau's 2nd District which includes portions of Hempstead, West Hempstead, Westbury, East Meadow, East Garden City and Uniondale.

A former two-term town board member, Troiano was the first African-American ever elected to town office in North Hempstead.

Troiano served for three terms on the Board of Education of the Westbury School District where he served seven years as board president.

Before beginning his career in government, Troiano served as treasurer and senior vice president of Prudential Securities.

He received an M.B.A. from Stanford University and a B.A. from Brown University.  

Also announced Monday, Bosworth named Elizabeth Dvorkin Botwin as town attorney; Cindy Cardinal as chief of staff; and Aline Khatchadourian as director of finance.

Salary details were not announced Monday by Bosworth, who stated the taxpayer-funded staff appointments will be paid for using off-setting expenditure reductions within the 2014 town budget.

Inauguration is set for Jan. 5 in North Hempstead.

The appointments will be considered by the town council Jan. 2.
