North Hempstead Copes with Storm
No downed power lines, damaged areas, debris or down trees; heavy snow still possible Tuesday morning, town officials say.
The snowstorm that blanketed the Northeast covered parts North Hempstead with between 12 and 18 inches of snow, authorities said.
The storm has been downgraded, with some more heavy snow possible in the morning, and light snow though the afternoon, North Hempstead officials said.
The town’s plows cleared roads throughout North Hempstead until 12 a.m. Tuesday, and were back at it at 4 a.m.

Public Safety Commissioner Andy DeMartin said the town in good shape. The train station parking lots are all plowed, and the Long Island Railroad was de-freezing tracks early Tuesday.
The MTA reports that Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad, NYC Transit Bus and Subway Service -- including Staten Island Railway (SIR) will be gradually restored Tuesday morning. All service will operate on a Sunday schedule for Tuesday. Service will operate on a full weekday schedule on Wednesday.

There were no power outages in the town, and no downed power lines, damaged areas, debris or down trees. With high tide at 4:31 a.m., there was no coastal or road flooding, officials said.
The town’s Superintendent of Highways said crews found plowing easier and were able to do a more thorough job this year than last because there were no cars on road.
The town has 70 vehicles deployed including snow plows, pay-loaders and trucks throughout the duration of the storm to plow the 600 miles of roads and 2,000 tons of road salt.
The Town’s 311 call center is open 24 hours to make sure that residents can get in touch with the Town at any time. So far since yesterday they received 892 calls
The town has also announced the following:
• Tonight’s night’s Town Board meeting has been cancelled.
• Town garbage pickup has been cancelled for Today and Wednesday.
• All parks and senior programming has been cancelled for Today. Also all Project Independence and transportation is cancelled. Social workers reached out to all our homebound clients and checked on them. All transportation set to get back to normal on Wednesday 2 p.m.
