Westbury High School Celebrates the Class of 2023 Graduates

Graduate Scholars Take the Next Steps into Adulthood

Westbury Union Free School District held its commencement ceremony for the Westbury High School 2023 graduating class on June 23. The ceremony took place at the Tilles Center at Long Island University, where graduates received their diplomas and were commended for their hard work and achievements. The graduating class is comprised of 421 scholars.

“The Class of 2023 shows me just how bright of a future there really is. These graduates have shown endless creativity, intelligence, ambition and work ethic during their time in the Westbury School District,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tahira DuPree Chase. “These scholars have learned so much in the classroom and about themselves during their four years at Westbury High School, and it shows in the young men and women seated here before me. I commend these scholars, not only for all they have learned but also for all they have endured, being forced to experience high school through a pandemic and doing so with the utmost maturity and resilience. I would like to thank the teachers, faculty and Board of Education for working tirelessly, day in and day out, to ensure that these scholars were given a high-quality education. I also would like to say thank you to the families, whose endless support provides the scholars with everything they need to succeed. You supported them through leadership opportunities, mentorships, enriching programming and their many achievements. Congratulations to the Class of 2023, I am so proud of you and I look forward to seeing all that you go on to accomplish.”

At the ceremony, speeches were given by valedictorian, Berlinda Pierre-Louis, and salutatorian, Steven Deras. They addressed their peers and reflected on their experiences at Westbury High School before imparting inspiring words of wisdom about the hard work and dedication that led them to where they are today. Pierre-Louis is set to study physical therapy at Cornell University, and Deras will attend John Hopkins University, majoring in Biology.
