Westbury Schools Art Displayed in State Exhibit

Westbury Union Free School District is proud to announce that ten scholars in grades 5-12 have been selected to display their artwork in the 33rd annual New York State Art Teachers Association Legislative Student Art Exhibit. The virtual exhibit showcases artwork made by scholars in grades K-12 across New York State.

“Congratulations to each and every scholar whose artwork was selected to be displayed in the Legislative Student Art Exhibit,” said Westbury Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tahira DuPree Chase. “Here in the Westbury Schools, we instill in our scholars the belief that art can be a valuable tool and outlet for their creative expression. We are proud to have a fantastic art department staffed with some of the brightest artists who teach our scholars that art is a form of expression that allows the creator complete control of their canvas. It’s their job to use their imagination to create something brand new.”

Westbury scholars’ artwork selected for inclusion in the art exhibit spans a wide range of mediums, including weaving, an upcycled relief sculpture, a handcrafted ceramic plate and more.

Westbury congratulates the following Westbury scholars for having their artwork displayed in the exhibit:

• Jason Coronel, 5th grader at Drexel Avenue School
• Axel Guevara Flores, 5th grader at Drexel Avenue School
• Jenny Negrete, 10th grader at Westbury High School
• Jefrey Juarez Medina, 9th grader at Westbury High School
• Nicole Alvarenga, 9th grader at Westbury High School
• Gabriela Crespo, 12th grader at Westbury High School
• Larissa, 12th grader at Westbury High School
• Jordan Ramirez-Lopez, 12th grader at Westbury High School
• Tatiana Jones, 12th grader at Westbury High School
• Justin Vanegas, 12th grader at Westbury High School

The exhibit is open for viewing through February 2024 at www.nysata.org/legislative-exhibit.
