Montauk Named 4th Best Surfing Spot In United States: Report
Surfing spots were analyzed on factors such as Google searches, Instagram tags, coastline length, and average sea temperature, a repot says.

MONTAUK, NY — The secret is out, with the world knowing now what locals have known all along: Montauk has some of best surfing, anywhere.
A new report by ParkSleepFly named Montauk the 4th best surfing spot in the United States.
The report analyzed surfing spots around the world on various factors such as Google searches, Instagram tags, coastline length, and average sea temperatures, ParkSleepFly said.

According to the report, Cocoa Beach, Florida ranked first, followed by Waikiki in Oahu, Hawaii. Third was Huntington Beach in Orange County, California.
Montauk, the authors said, was reported to have 44 surf breaks, 2,180 monthly searches, an average high sea temperature of 22 degrees Celsius, and 2,216 Instagram tags, for an overall Best Surfing Spot Score of 6.43.

In addition, the world’s top surfing spot is Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca, Mexico with a surfing spot score of 7.5 out of 10, the authors said. Uluwatu in Bali, Indonesia is the world’s most searched for surfing spot with over 10,000 monthly searches over the past 12 months, the study added.
The most popular surfing spot according to Instagram is Noosa in Queensland, Australia, with a total of 16,036 tagged post, the data indicated.
