Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Cooking Volunteers

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

Summer Barbecue for Youth
Family Services of Westchester's Camp Success is hosting an end-of-summer celebration event for its campers, their families, care management personnel, and staff. Volunteers are needed to help with setting up, serving food and assisting the caterer, assisting with games and activities, and cleanup. Volunteers will receive a short orientation and lunch will be provided. Perfect for volunteers ages 16+.
Date: Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cooking Volunteers
Join D.I.G. Farm's new initiative, the Westchester Local Food Project, in preparing meals that will be donated to the Community Service Associates' soup kitchen in Mount Vernon. Volunteers will help prep, cook, and package meals for delivery. Kitchen experience is a plus; this role is perfect for volunteers ages 14+.
Date: Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Aug. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Meals on Heels Delivery Drivers
Volunteers are needed to assist with delivering hot, freshly made, Kosher lunches daily to older adults who are homebound. Volunteers must have a car; be able to carry at least 10 pounds of food; and be able to complete a volunteer application, 20-minute orientation, and a trial run. Volunteers meet at the Riverside Y in the Bronx to pick up meals for delivery throughout the area, including Yonkers.

Volunteer Caregiver Coaches
The role of a Caregiver Coach is to compassionately engage with caregivers whose loved ones are in the hospital or live in the community. Caregiver Coaches provide emotional support, help in navigating the hospital system, and share appropriate resources. This position requires someone who is willing to listen with a non-judgmental ear and provide companionship to people during difficult times in their lives. Caregiver Coaches must be 35+.
