2 Bodies Found In Landing Gear Of Plane That Departed JFK Identified

The two individuals are reportedly from the Dominican Republic​, according to officials.

NEW YORK CITY — Two teens found dead inside the landing gear compartment of a JetBlue airplane that arrived in Fort Lauderdale, FL from JFK Airport in January have been identified, according to authorities.

On Jan. 6, the bodies were discovered following routine post-flight maintenance inspection after the flight arrived at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Patch previously reported.

The victims have been identified as Jeik Aniluz Lusi, 18, and Elvis Borques Castillo, 16 following use of DNA testing by the Broward County Sheriff's Office, according to reports.

The teens' cause of death is still being determined, and it is not known at this time how the two boys ended up in the plane's wheel well.

“This is a heartbreaking situation, and we are committed to working closely with authorities to support their efforts to understand how this occurred,” JetBlue said in a statement after the incident.
