- Mayor Adams indicated that he would make 'modifications' to his controversial plan to remove homeless individuals from the subway. The plan has drawn criticism for not specifying what exactly would happen to the people removed–whether they would be sent to supportive housing, a shelter, or somewhere else. (New York City Patch)
- March marks two years since New York City reported its first COVID-19 case–and a lot has changed since then. At the time New Yorkers grappled with new terminology like "shelter in place," "lockdown," "testing," "masking" and "vaccine mandates." Now, last Sunday saw just 362 cases reported in the city, down 99% from just two months ago. (New York City Patch)
- After New Yorkers were hit with unexpectedly high utility bills last month, New York State lawmakers are demanding that Con Edison reform itself. The utility company said it would modify how it estimates future spikes in energy consumption–but that wasn't enough assurance for Attorney General Letitia James who demanded Con Ed give customers at least a month's warning before anticipated rate hikes of over 15%. (New York City Patch)
- A group of Brooklyn politicians are asking the NYC Department of City Planning to eliminate a rule requiring the construction of parking spaces next to new developments, arguing that doing so would incentivize the use of public transit and could lower building costs, potentially producing more affordable housing. (New York City Patch)
- A 22-year-old mother and her one-year-old baby were found dead in a Brooklyn building that caught on fire Tuesday. The blaze took 60 firefighters to put out, and is the third fatal fire in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood this year. (New York City Patch)
