Apple Picking Near NYC: 2019 Guide

NEW YORK – Fall in New York – crisp walks through stunning colors in Central Park, Autumn fashions and trips to the countryside to go apple picking.

Patch has put together a list of where to go within easy reach of the city to find pick-your-own orchards, as well as apple festivals and other fun activities.

Remember to call ahead or check the orchard's website to clarify hours of operation or to check for availability of apples and other produce.

Queens County Farm Museum

  • 73-50 Little Neck Parkway, Floral Park
  • Right in the heart of the city, this working farm dates back to 1697, making it the oldest continuously-running one in the state. It's now owned by the New York City Department of Parks and gives free access for visitors wanting to experience agrarian life right in the middle of Floral Park. You can even get there by public transport.
  • Though there isn't exactly apple picking, the farm will be hosting harvest weekends on Saturdays and Sunday from Oct. 5 until 26, and on Monday Oct 14. They'll feature a selection of apples grown on orchards in the Hudson Valley.

Hank's PumpkinTown

  • 240 Montauk Highway in Water Mill.
  • Apple picking at Hank's Pumpkintown started Sept. 7 and runs until Halloween. Apple picking is open Saturdays, Sundays and select school holidays from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. School holidays are Sept. 30, Oct. 1, Oct. 9 and Oct. 14.

Harbes Family Farm Orchard

  • 5698 Sound Avenue in Riverhead
  • Harbes Farm offers apple picking from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through Sunday, Oct. 27. Apple picking is also available Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah and Columbus Day.
  • Harbes Orchard Apple Festival takes place Sept. 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is free.

Lewin Farms

  • 812 Sound Avenue in Calverton
  • Pick your own apples at Lewin Farms is available daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. starting late August through October. Call (631)-929-4327 prior to making your trip to make sure Pick Your Own apples are available.

Milk Pail Farmstand

  • 50 Horsemill Lane in Water Mill
  • Milk Pail Farmstand's apple picking season runs through October. The farm is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (and holidays). For more information, click here.

Seven Ponds Orchard

  • 65 Seven Ponds Road in Water Mill
  • Open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Wickham's Fruit Farm

  • 28700 Route 25 in Cutchogue
  • Farmstand open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Sundays. U-Pick Friday and Saturday only, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Windy Acres Farm

  • U-pick is open on weekends now and during the fall season from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Harvest weekends.

Westchester

Outhouse Orchards, 139 Hardscrabble Road, North Salem, 914 277-3188

  • The orchards offer a wide selection of fruit to inspire the fall spirit. There's a corn maze and hayrides.

Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm, 1335 White Hill Road, Yorktown Heights, 914 245-5111

  • The farm is open daily from August until mid-December. You can pick apples from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The market is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for freshly baked cookies, pies, cider doughnuts, strudel sticks and gift items.

Stuart's Fruit Farm, 62 Granite Springs Road, Granite Springs, 914 245-2784

  • The 200-acre family-owned farm offers pick-your-own apples and vegetables. On weekends you can take a hayride through the orchards and end the visit by sampling a freshly baked pie or doughnut.

Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard, 130 Hardscrabble Road, North Salem, 914 485-1210

  • The farm is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The annual fall festival, which runs weekends through September and October, features hayrides, apple cannons, bouncy castles and bungee trampolines.
