UPDATE: Pressure Cooker Found Under Bronx Overpass Was Just a Pressure Cooker

UPDATE, Sept. 21, 7:40 p.m.: The NYPD just gave the "all clear" in the case of the unattended pressure cooker found on East 134th Street. The pressure cooker appears to have been just a pressure cooker, not a makeshift bomb vessel, an NYPD spokesman told Patch. ("Every time somebody leaves something on the street now, you'll be calling me," he said.) The Major Deegan Expressway, which was shut down in both directions for over an hour while police investigated, has reportedly been reopened.

THE BRONX, NY — Of more than a dozen "suspicious package" scares throughout the city since the shocking pressure-cooker bombing in Chelsea over the weekend that injured 29, an object discovered Wednesday evening beneath the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx caused particular alarm in a city on edge.

An unattended pressure cooker — the same type of kitchenware used in the Chelsea bombing — was found under the overpass near East 134th Street and Alexander Avenue around 5:35 p.m.

The Major Deegan Expressway was reportedly shut down in both directions while swarms of cops investigated.
