  1. Police are searching for an arsonist who may have set a part of northern Central Park on fire Tuesday. The blaze in the northern woods region of the park took nearly two hours to put out, after starting around 1:20 p.m. (New York City Patch)
  2. The new Omicron 'sub-lineage' first reported on Tuesday is fast becoming dominant in New York City, and while cases are overall low–just under 400 were reported citywide on Monday–health officials caution the pandemic isn't over yet. (New York City Patch)
  3. Oil prices nationwide are already at their highest since the 2008 recession–at over $4 per gallon. On Tuesday President Biden announced a ban on Russian oil, which accounts for 8% of the nation's total international imports. That could potentially means even higher prices at the pump for New Yorkers. (New York City Patch)
  4. Hundreds of protestors marched across the Brooklyn Bridge Tuesday morning, demanding more funding for workers excluded from pandemic-related economic relief programs. The 'excluded workers fund,' which undocumented immigrant workers could qualify for, stopped accepting applications on October 8, leaving many essential workers unaccounted for. (New York City Patch)
  5. Brooklyn politicians have been asking the city since last week to eliminate the requirement of a minimum number of parking spaces in new residential developments near public transit. Recently, an 18-story building that will include 50 parking spots was approved to begin construction, demonstrating the politician's potentially uphill battle towards having their demands met.
