De Blasio Makes Quick Cameo In 'The Simpsons'

"From my shoulders, you can see Rhode Island!" the mayor says while giving Grampa Simpson a boost in Sunday night's episode.

NEW YORK — Mayor Bill de Blasio may have finally found his way onto the national stage: A quick appearance on "The Simpsons." The mayor made a cameo in Sunday night's episode of the long-running animated series, in which the iconic family paid a visit to the Big Apple.

During a montage of city sights, the cartoon mayor hoists Grampa Simpson on his shoulders and says, "From my shoulders, you can see Rhode Island!"

The appearance wasn't de Blasio's first on "The Simpsons" — he also had a live-action stint in the 2017 documentary episode titled "Springfield of Dreams: The Legend of Homer Simpson."

But it was the latest chapter in the Democratic mayor's long love affair with a show that he called an "amazing American institution" in an interview with The New York Times.

De Blasio told the paper that he's watched "The Simpsons" from the start. He credited the show with fueling the movement against nuclear power and praised its acerbic satire of politics and politicians.

"There’s a rejection of a lot of status quo in there that I appreciate," de Blasio told the Times. "And, of course, there’s a beautiful humanist element to the show. They figured out how to tell a lot of truth in a way that was light enough for people to get it, but still really edgy."

De Blasio's episode, titled "Mad About the Toy," is available to stream on Hulu and Fox.com.
