Lois and Mark of “At Your Service” are a one stop shop based in Yorkville who specialize in small jobs in NYC apartments and townhouses. Here are the top five stories in New York City today:
- A four-tent homeless encampment was cleared in The East Village, after a standoff between protestors and police that lasted nearly seven hours. According to a reporter at least six activists were arrested, amid Mayor Adams' controversial crackdown on homeless individuals living on the streets. (New York City Patch)
- Mayor Adams responded to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' remarks against New York City's mask policies by vowing to steal Florida's businesses to The Big Apple, adding that he likes having rivalries with other states. Adams launched a campaign earlier this week targeting Florida's controversial "don't say gay" law. (New York City Patch)
- NYC's crime rate was up 37 percent in March when compared to the same period last year. NYPD Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell blamed the increase on criminals not fearing consequences. While crime overall is on the rise, murders saw a nearly 16 percent drop compared to March 2021. (New York City Patch)
- A Harlem landlord illegally constructed four apartments inside of a building she owned, according to the city. Susan Edelstein, whose LLC operates serval buildings in Upper Manhattan, has previously made the city's 'worst landlord' list. (New York City Patch)
- The NYPD's hate crimes task force is investigating an arsonist attack on an LGBTQ nightclub in Brooklyn over the weekend, which sent shockwaves through the neighborhood known for its queer nightlife scene. - A landmarked Upper West Side church's congregation is seeking to loosen its historic status and turn it into an apartment tower. That's because they're falling short on the roughly $50 million needed to renovate it. (New York City Patch)
