'I Have Nothing To Hide,' Adams Says After Phones Seized By FBI
The mayor had his electronic devices taken by FBI agents in a surprise seizure on the street Monday, his campaign confirmed.
NEW YORK CITY — Mayor Eric Adams' electronic devices, including his phones, were seized by FBI agents this week amid a probe into whether his campaign received illegal donations from Turkish government, his campaign confirmed.
The surprise seizure unfolded as Adams was on the street, the New York Times first reported and his campaign attorney's Boyd Johnson confirmed to Patch.
Johnson, without providing details, said improper behavior by "an individual" was reported to investigators.

"After learning of the federal investigation, it was discovered that an individual had recently acted improperly," he said in a statement. "In the spirit of transparency and cooperation, this behavior was immediately and proactively reported to investigators. The Mayor has been and remains committed to cooperating in this matter."
Johnson said the seizure unfolded Monday night after Adams attended an event.

"The Mayor immediately complied with the FBI’s request and provided them with electronic devices," Johnson said. "The mayor has not been accused of any wrongdoing and continues to cooperate with the investigation."
Agents asked the mayor's security team to step aside as they climbed into his SUV with him and took at least two cellphones and an iPad, the Times' report states.
The agents, who had a court-authorized warrant, returned Adams' devices later this week, according to the Times.
A City Hall spokesperson referred Patch's request for comment to Adams' campaign.
Adams this week finally faced reporters' questions about the recent FBI raid on a key fundraiser. He said he directed his campaign staff to follow the rules.

The report also stated it wasn't immediately clear whether FBI agents referred to the fundraising probe when they took Adams' devices.
Adams, in a statement, said he expects his staff to follow the law and fully cooperate with any sort of investigation.
"I have nothing to hide," his statement reads.
