Feds Tell NYC To Return $106M In Migrant Grants

Three grants meant for city migrant services have been cancelled, according to Acting FEMA Administrator Craig Hamilton.

NEW YORK CITY — The Trump administration has revoked $188 millions in funding for migrant services in New York City, according to multiple media reports.

On April 1, the Federal Emergency Management Agency sent a letter to city officials requesting the return of $106 million in grants, according to the Associated Press.

Roughly $80 million in migrant funding that was previously taken back in February by FEMA was part of the $188 million in grants, according to Acting FEMA Administrator Craig Hamilton.

The FEMA administrator mentions in the letter that three grants meant for the city have been cancelled.

“The individuals receiving these services often have no legal status and are in the United States unlawfully, such as those awaiting removal proceedings,” Hamilton wrote in the letter. "This, in turn, provides support for illegal aliens and is not consistent with DHS' current priorities.”

Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday said he would fight to get back the migrant funding.

“Like their previous actions clawing back appropriated funds, these steps are unlawful, and the New York City Law Department is currently determining the best legal recourse to take to ensure that this money remains in New York City, where it was allocated and belongs,” Adams said at a press briefing.

More than 234,000 migrants have entered New York City in the past three years.
