The following areas in particular should be on the lookout, the National Weather Service (NWS) said in the advisory:

A "heat advisory" is also in effect across NYC until 8 a.m. Saturday, followed by an "excessive heat watch" (considered more severe than an advisory) through the rest of the weekend.
As of Thursday night, the NWS was predicting a 30 to 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms hitting the city throughout the weekend. These storms would be "capable of producing torrential rainfall and localized flash flooding," the NWS said.
