Fundraiser Launched For Family Of Queens Mom Killed In Stabbing

A GoFundMe campaign aims to raise $40,000 for the four children of Fatima Jawad, who prosecutors say was stabbed to death by her husband.

FRESH MEADOWS, QUEENS — A fundraising campaign has been launched to support the family of a Fresh Meadows woman who prosecutors say was stabbed to death by her husband. The GoFundMe page set up by Abdelrahman Moustafa, who says he is a close friend of Fatima Jawad's family, had raised more than $32,000 as of late Thursday morning.

"With the grace of God, let's come together to help this family cope through this horrible ordeal," Moustafa wrote on the page.

Jawad, 44, died on Tuesday after her husband, Jawad Hussain, attacked her with two knives in their 69th Avenue home, the Queens District Attorney's Office said.

The attack also wounded the couple's 18-year-old daughter, who was slashed in the hands and wrists trying to stop her father, according to prosecutors. Hussain was due to be arraigned Wednesday on charges of murder, felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon, the DA's office said.

Jawad is survived by two other daughters, aged 11 and 16, and a 20-year-old son, and the family is " in desperate need of the community's support," Moustafa wrote.

The money raised will help pay for Jawad's funeral, living expenses and the wounded daughter's hospital bills, the GoFundMe page says. The campaign aims to raise $40,000.

"We ask that you please continue to share with friends and family. All proceedings will go a long way and are appreciated," Moustafa wrote.
