Judge Cancels Adams' Case Hearing, Dismissal Ruling Expected Soon
A follow-up hearing on U.S. Solicitor General Paul Clement's findings was scheduled to be on March 14.

NEW YORK CITY — A federal judge overseeing Mayor Eric Adams' corruption case has canceled a hearing scheduled for Friday — meaning a ruling on whether charges will be officially dropped could come soon.
U.S. District Judge Dale E. Ho in a written order on Tuesday disclosed he had reviewed filings from both parties and U.S. Solicitor General Paul Clement, who was appointed as an independent attorney to argue against the Justice Department's motion that Adam's case should be dismissed.
All three parties favor dismissal of charges, according to the judge.

Ho did not believe that hearing oral argument in person was necessary.
The judge will have to decide whether to dismiss charges against permanently. Clement in his filing told Ho to drop charges with prejudice, Patch previously reported.

The Justice Department is seeking to refile the case after the November mayoral election, according to an NBC News report.
Last week, Clement told the court that "all roads here — including the same separation-of-powers principles that constrain the Court's options — lead to dismissal with prejudice."
Dismissing the case with prejudice would mean that the Department of Justice could not reinstate the indictment — effectively permanently ending the case against Adams.
Adams faces one count of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy, two counts of solicitation of a contribution from a foreign national and one count of bribery, Patch previously reported.
Adams received benefits and perks from Turkish officials, including free and discounted airline tickets and hotel accommodations, according to an unsealed indictment.
The perks were worth more than $100,000, prosecutors said. Adams has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Previously, Adams' defense lawyers had asked a federal judge to dismiss his federal corruption case after accusing prosecutors of misconduct, according to court documents.
